Far from its glory days, Alanreed is an unincorporated community that once was the largest town in Southern Gray County. Alanreed was primarily known for the 1930 Texaco Super Service Station, the last safe stop before encountering the Jericho Gap, a common trap for cars attempting to drive through 18 miles of mud (nowadays, the section is paved).
